Sophie McCoy is an Associate Professor of Biology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  She is the Director of Graduate Studies in Biology and serves as a Faculty Advisor to the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, member of the Graduate Student Experience Initiative, and board member of the Chancellor's Science Scholars. Before arriving at UNC, she was a Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow in the United Kingdom and held a faculty position at Florida State University. Sophie graduated from Phillips Academy and earned an Sc.B. with Honors in Chemistry from Brown University. She won the Best Dissertation in the Biological Sciences for her doctoral research in Ecology and Evolution at the University of Chicago.

Hands on experience working with students of all ages, mentorship trainings from multiple professional organizations, and her own experience as a mom form the basis of Sophie's coaching style.
